PERFECT DISORDER

PERFECT DISORDER

“Perfect Disorder”, explores the contrast and beauty within the idea of uncontrolled disorder as a form of perfection. Through this idea of “perfect disorder” I seek to communicate the beauty of wearing mistakes and imperfections as not only a form of empowerment, yet also a representation of the beauty within the journey through life. Initially inspired by artist Gustave Doré’s illustrations and prints depicting the scenes from Dantes Divine Comedy. I was intrigued by the dark and often morbid, yet disturbingly romantic scenes Doré depicts of the Divine Comedy, I found myself drawn to the rich contrast created between shades within the prints and the reoccurring themes of light and dark. This collection explores the surreal realm of Dante Alighieri’s 14th century poem the Divine Comedy and its worlds of Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. Exploring the line between contrasting themes of order and disorder as well as sin and redemption, to highlight the beauty of imperfection within one’s journey through life and how mistakes can be worn as “armour”. The collection will explore a series of fabric and material distressing techniques contrasted yet complimented by elements of deconstruction. As well as the use of bespoke alternative materials such as chainmail, other forms of metal and paper, subverted through an untraditional and high fashion lens.
